People might ask what causes depression, there are a number of things which can help cause this problem. For those that have it, their lives can be a miserable existence, with a constant feeling of being unhappy and in a down mood where there appears to be no end in sight. Knowing what causes depression will help sufferers on how to overcome their depression.
Diet can be one of the causes especially where there is a high level of junk food eaten as this type of food lacks the necessary nutrients especially potassium, to help a person stay on top of the everyday things that may be stressful and wearing on the mind. A poorly balanced diet can also have a similar problem and this may be where the right foods are eaten but not enough variety, as certain foods carry certain nutrient and to stay in good health, humans need to eat a good range of foods to get all the necessary vitamins and minerals etc., that are available and needed by the body.
Anemia can be another cause. This may be the effects of menstruation or other problems where the individuals iron levels fall, they become pale and tiredness sets in, the tiredness in itself can cause a person to feel depressed, as they feel they are unable to accomplish without effort things they need to do, this becomes a vicious circle if left for too long. There can be other causes of anemia such as a deficiency of Vitamin B12 which can also cause feelings and effects very similar to an iron deficiency.
A lack of potassium in a diet can cause a person to feel depressed, this can often produce a feeling of wanting to cry for no reason at all or sometimes finding that the mind wants to dwell on sad thoughts or events, which is what brings the tears to the surface. This type of problem may cause a person to find they may become out of breath very quickly on exertion and their pulse may beat much quicker than most people when they have to do something with little effort.
Another cause can be an extremely stressful event, where the individuals mind has not been able to cope with what has happened or what they have seen etc. This can be fairly severe and a long term problem and can come into the area of post traumatic stress syndrome, which needs professional help.
What appears to be unsolvable problems can be another, such as those of money, relationships, caught in a situation where there appears to be no release from it, such as a poor marriage, a long drought or constant crop failures experienced when farming. The inability to be able to get a job with constant rejection, trying to find a relationship with the other sex, plus many other similar experiences.
A positive thing to remember if the depression is caused by a problem, there is always an answer to any problem no matter what it is, it just has to be found. This may take a short time if the person afflicted can think it through and look for the light at the end of the tunnel and their way out of the mess that is causing the depression, or it can take much longer where it needs plenty of understanding and support and help to get there.
